October Assembly - Remembrance

Our October Assembly is our annual Remembrance theme.
Jean Higham will talk about her experience as an atheist in offering secular words of comfort to religious loved ones who are dying or grieving. One resource she'll talk about is a book by Greta Christina, called "Comforting Thoughts About Death That Have Nothing to Do with God."
We will also hold an interactive remembrance ceremony. We invite everyone to bring a candle and light it during the ceremony. During the program, we will invite attendees to share the name of someone they are remembering and light their candle in remembrance.
Steve Sergeant is hosting and Amy Baldwin is giving a Doing Your Best talk. We will have singalongs with the band to "Circle of Life" from Lion King, "In My Life" by The Beatles, and "Fire and Rain" by James Taylor. There will also be a special musical number by Crista Alvey and Elizabeth Feig of "For Good" from Wicked, set to member-submitted photos of their lost loved ones.

SASV is an inclusive secular community, meaning we don’t advocate for any religious or spiritual beliefs, but we do welcome and respect others, including LGBTQ, agnostics, atheists, humanists, and believers.
We usually have 30-40+ attendees. During the celebration, all but the presenters are muted, but you can sing along, text chat, and share your video so that you and your live image are part of the experience.
Sunday Assembly Silicon Valley is all volunteer, free and open to the public. Donations are gratefully accepted. Please celebrate life with us!
